Daily Quotes

I’ve had to do some reorganizing in one of my Quote books and there were some quotes that I thought that I would share with you today.

“Life’s journey is not traveled on a freeway devoid of obstacles, pitfalls, and snares. Rather it is a pathway marked by forks and turnings. Decisions are constantly before us. To make them wisely, courage is needed; the courage to say no; the courage to say yes.  Decisions do determine destiny.”

Thomas S Monson

As most of us know; our daily life is not always straight forward, nor is it a bed of roses, or maybe it is, since roses do have thorns, (most types do).  So we often have to make decisions based on the information we have to hand at the time.  Not all of them will be the right decision, but we can always reassess that decision when we have further information.

To follow another line of thought I came across two quotes from one of my favorite comedians, Robin Williams, taken from his character in the movie, “Dead Poets Society,”

“No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world.”

Robin Williams

This is so true.  History shows what idea’s and words can do.  All the tools, inventions, Technology etc, come because of an idea that some one has had. e.g. Thomas Edison – The electric light bulb.  The same is true of words, one of the greatest playwrights of the western world; William Shakespeare, is great example of the power of words in our modern age.  Words have the power to uplift us or bring us down, words do carry weight let no one try to convince you otherwise.

Also this quote, again from “Dead Poets Society,” but this time talking about the pupose of education.

“I thought the purpose of education was to learn to think for yourself.”

– Dead Poets Society                                                                           Robin Williams

Well thats all from me for now, Adieu till the next time.

Daily Quotes

Hi people today I thought that I would just pick a few quotes at random from my collections, (opening the books and flipping pages to see where we end up)

First off the rack is a quote I have in a file on my computer.  In a way it deals with our ability to cope with any and all situations that we may find ourselves in as we go through life.  It starts like this –

“The size of your problems is nothing compared with your ability to solve them.  Don’t overestimate your problems, and don’t underestimate yourself.”

To me this quote is saying that instead of just jumping into trying solve our problems or challenges in life, no matter what they are or how big they seem to be.  It is better to take time to look at the challenge or problem from all angles and bring what resources we can to bear on resolving them. Often a problem can be broken down into smaller parts and that way it doesn’t seem as big or as insurmountable as it first appeared.

Next from the same source comes a quote from Walt Disney, artist, filmmaker, entrepreneur and businessman.

“Why worry? If you’ve done the very best you can, worrying won’t make it any better.”

Walt Disney

This should be self explanatory, if you have done all that you feel that you can for a particular task, then worrying about it won’t change anything.

From another collection this one stood out to me as I was flipping pages.

“In any fight it is not only what you can do, it is where and how you do it.  An enemy has many fronts, and if one seems impregnable, attack on another.”

In reading this quote many of us would think that it only applies to the tactics that you would use in a battle or fight situation.  But my thinking is that it can also apply it to any difficult situation that we may find ourselves in. In fact it reminds me of another quote.

“When on door closes another opens, but we often stare so long at the one that has closed that we don’t see the one that has opened.”

Well that is all from me today so I bid you Adieu.  Have a great day, until next time.

Quotes of The Day

Various thoughts have run through my mind this week, busy as it has been.  Like always a couple have stuck in my mind and stand forth above the others.  But both of them have to do with our attitudes and also our behaviours.

Throughout my life I have always been taught that learning and improving myself is a good thing to do. Keeping this in mind the following thought can be an encouragement for one to learn and also keep an open mind.

“Neglecting to broaden their views has kept some men doing the one thing all their lives.”

In other words, if you don’t increase your skills or learning then you might end up being only able to do the one type of work all your lives.

Having said that some of us can be quite stubborn and resist change. Or don’t know how to change.  This next quote sort of illustrates that.

“When one door closes another opens, but we often stare so long at the one that has closed that we don’t see the one that has opened.”

While this quote is appropriate for so many different situations, I thought it would serve in this situation as well.  Some times when our circumstances change we are so focussed on our old life or situation that we either cannot see or refuse to see the opportunities that have opened up with our change of circumstances.
