Ageing

Having recently celebrated another birthday I thought I would go and see what I have in my collections in regards to getting older.  And these are a few of the quotes that I came up with.

For some of us, age has a way of creeping up on us; and this first quote would seem to indicate the way age can come upon some of us.

“Time has laid his hand upon my heart, gently not smiting it; but as a Harper lays his open palm upon his harp to deaden its vibrations.”

Henry W Longfellow

The next one I have found is in point form and has some funny but true points.  I have had it in my collection for a long time now. And is titled –

You Know You Are Getting Old When . . .

Everything hurts, . . . And what doesn’t hurt, doesn’t work.

The gleam in your eye is the sun on your bifocals .

You feel like the morning after, but you haven’t been anywhere!

Your little black book only has names ending in M.D.

You get winded playing cards

You join a health club, but don’t go.

Your children begin to look middle age.

A dripping tap causes an uncontrollable urge.

You know all the answers, but nobody asks the questions!

You look forward to a dull evening.

You need glasses to find your glasses

You turn out the light for economy, instead of romance.

You sit in a rocking chair, but can’t make it go.

Your knee’s buckle, but your belt won’t!

Your back goes out more times than you do.

You put your Bra on back to front, and it fits better.

Your house is too big and your medicine cabinet is not big enough

You sink your teeth into a steak, and they stay there!

Your birthday cake sinks under the weight of the candles.

And when the candles are lit, the fire brigade comes

I hope you had a bit of a laugh at some of the points made in this quote, I know I did.  And some of them I can relate to. . . Can you?

While not directly relating to ageing these next couple of quotes remind us that there is a purpose to how we live our lives and the way we look at our lives. First is one from Ralph Waldo Emerson.

“Life is a journey, not a destination.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Looking at this quote it reminds me that my life is not the focus of my life.  It what happens along the way.  The experiences I have and how my life impacts on others that is what should be important to each of us.  Perhaps that is why I like our next and final quote for today.  From Thomas S Monson we have this –

“Life’s journey is not traveled on a freeway devoid of obstacles, pitfalls and snares. Rather it is a pathway marked by forks and turnings. Decisions are constantly before us.  To make them wisely, courage is needed; the courage to say no, the courage to say yes.  Decisions do determine destiny.”

Thomas S Monson

Decisions not only effect our destinies, they can effect how we enjoy our lives and how we impact those around us. Whether it be a positive impact or a negative one, it is our choice.

But that’s enough from me for now. So I will bid all adieu for now. Till next time.

Daily Quotes

I’ve had to do some reorganizing in one of my Quote books and there were some quotes that I thought that I would share with you today.

“Life’s journey is not traveled on a freeway devoid of obstacles, pitfalls, and snares. Rather it is a pathway marked by forks and turnings. Decisions are constantly before us. To make them wisely, courage is needed; the courage to say no; the courage to say yes.  Decisions do determine destiny.”

Thomas S Monson

As most of us know; our daily life is not always straight forward, nor is it a bed of roses, or maybe it is, since roses do have thorns, (most types do).  So we often have to make decisions based on the information we have to hand at the time.  Not all of them will be the right decision, but we can always reassess that decision when we have further information.

To follow another line of thought I came across two quotes from one of my favorite comedians, Robin Williams, taken from his character in the movie, “Dead Poets Society,”

“No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world.”

Robin Williams

This is so true.  History shows what idea’s and words can do.  All the tools, inventions, Technology etc, come because of an idea that some one has had. e.g. Thomas Edison – The electric light bulb.  The same is true of words, one of the greatest playwrights of the western world; William Shakespeare, is great example of the power of words in our modern age.  Words have the power to uplift us or bring us down, words do carry weight let no one try to convince you otherwise.

Also this quote, again from “Dead Poets Society,” but this time talking about the pupose of education.

“I thought the purpose of education was to learn to think for yourself.”

– Dead Poets Society                                                                           Robin Williams

Well thats all from me for now, Adieu till the next time.

Quote of the Day

As promised here are some more quotes relating to Enthusiasm. Enthusiasm can be a driving force in our lives as the following quote shows.

“The reason why many people fail, is that they lose their enthusiasm and with it goes drive, ambition, creativity, determination and success.”

Enthusiasm can get you out of the dumps, or when you are feeling down it can lift you up.  But how do you become or develop enthusiasm? The following quote can give you an idea.

“Apathy can only be overcome by enthusiasm; enthusiasm can only be generated by two things. First an idea that takes the imagination by storm.  And secondly, a definite intelligible plan for carrying out that idea into practice.”

While I believe that the above quote is true in how do generate enthusiasm, I also believe that being positive or developing a positive attitude can aid in being enthusiastic about something.

That’s enough from me for now. So I bid you adieu  And an encouragement to be positive about life.  Till next time.
