Daily Quotes

Being the christmas season I thought it appropriate to post some poems that I have about this wonderful season of thankgiving for the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

To start off here is a poem by a lady called Lucille Jensen, called “Why The Nativity?”

Why The Nativity?

Why a babe

swaddled,

warmed,

held to Mary’s heart,

born to men through

Deity?

Why a Star,

And kings afar

Kneeling, feeling?

Why a stable,

and shepards able

Worshipping in fields

Of angels?

Why a life

So pure

be taken,

Shaken in Gethsemane,

Then struck upon

A violent cross?

Why?

For me

For me!

Lucille Jensen

Next I have what I call a Christmas Letter, it was given to my wife by a friend.  And i think it is just right for the season.

A Christmas Letter

If you look for me at christmas

you won’t need a special star

I’m no longer just in Bethlehem

I’m right there where you are

You may not be aware of me amid the celebrations

You’ll have to look beyond the stores and all the decorations

But if you take a moment from your

list of things to do and listen to

Your heart you’ll find I’m waiting there for you.

Your the one I want to be with,

Your the reason that I came and you’ll

find me in the stillness as I’m

whispering your name.

Love  Jesus

I hope that these poems help you to remember why we celebrate christmas.  So I wish you all the best for this christmas season.  And hope that you and your families have a great christmas together.  Always remember the reason for this holiday season.

So I bid you adiu, till the next time.

Quotes of The Day

Yesterday my wife and I attended our Church’s Stake Conference. This is meeting where we get to listen to and receive instruction from local leaders as well as Leaders from Church Headquarters.  Presiding at our meeting was Elders Daniel G Hamilton, a member of 8th Quorum of the Seventy.  The members of this quorum serve in the Asia Pacific region.  Anyway during his talk he made some statements that made an impression on me.

The first refers to getting answers from prayer and how to treat it. It is a very simple statement but has profound implications.

“I asked God, and He answered; That settles it.”

Elder Daniel G Hamilton

To me this has at least 3 parts to it.  First is asking God for answers, next is listening to the answer or answers given. And finally believing and accepting and following the directions and the answers given. This statement really stood out to me.  As I said at the beginning a very simple statement with profound implications.

The second statement made by Elder Hamilton that had an impact on me he introduced by saying; Someone once said –

“Jesus wants to guide your footsteps, but you have to move your feet!”

The way I look at this statement is that God is ever ready to help and guide you.  But you have to make the effort both to ask for that help, and to do something about it once you receive the answers or guidance he gives to you. he is not going to do everything for you, but he will help you to help yourself.

Well once again we come to the end of my quote post, and so I bid you adieu, till the next time.

Quotes of The Day

Today I thought I would just pick a ouple of quotes at random. So i have been flipping throught the pages of some of my collection and i came across these two.

The first that caught my attention was one written by a french writer we know as Voltaire, but was born in Paris, France on 21 November 1694, with the name of Francois-Marie Arouet.  he was the youngest of 5 children.  Later in life he chose to be called Voltaire.  during his life he wrote over 20,000 letters over 2,000 books & phampletts.

“Life is thickly sown with thorns, and I know no other remedy than to pass quickly through them.  The longer we dwell on our misfortunes the greater is their power to harm us.”

Voltaire

To me this just says that we shouldn’t let our troubles get us down; instead of feeling sorry about it we should do what we can to fix or resolve the situation or problem.  If we can’t do either of the above we should learn from our experience and move onin a positive manner.

Next is a quote from Thomas Carlyle, a notable scottish philosopher, satrical writer, essayist and historian.  He was born in Ecclefechan, Scotland on 4 Dec 1795 and died in London, England on 5 Feb 1881.

“The man without a purpose is like a ship without a rudder, a waif, a nothing, a no man.  Have a purpose in life, and having it, throw such strength of mind and muscle into your work as God has given you.”

Thomas Carlyle

I think Thomas Carlyle’s quote is self explaining so I won’t go any further with it.  But I will bid you Adiu once again till the next time

Quotes of the Day

I thought I would continue with quotes relating to relationships.  Since the last post had a quote dealing with Ten Commandments for Husbands.  I also have a similar ten commandments for human relations.

Ten Commandments for Human Relations

  1. Speak to people, there is nothing so nice as a cheerful greeting.

2. Call people by name; the sweetest music to anyone’s ears is the sound of their own name.

3.  Have humility, there is something to be learned from every individual.

4.  Be friendly, if you would have a friend, be one.

5.  Be cordial, speak and act as though everything you did is a pleasure.

6.  Be sincerly interested in others, you can like almost everybody if you try.

7.  Be generous with praise, cautious with critism.

8.  Give your word, then keep it.

9.  Be considerate of the feelings of others.

10.  Be alert to give service, what counts most in life is what we can do for others.

Now none of these are hard to do, but doing them on a regular basis or making them a habit can make our own lives and the lives of those we meet or come in contact with a whole lot easier and simpler.

Just a few short quotes that echo the above commandments.  The first is from King GeorgeVI of England.

“The highest of distinctions is service to others.”

King George VI

Also from an english playright, William Shakespeare;

“Condem the fault and not the actor of it.”

William Shakespeare

Well that is all from me today.  So in bidding you Adiu I hope that you find value in what I have shared with you here. Till next time.

Quotes of The Day

I have been trying to think of what quotes I could share with you for most of the week.  Then I started to think of relationships, in particular the relationship between Husbands and wives.  And i remembered that i had a couple of items which, while not strictly quotes as such, they serve to illustrate the points that I feel to make.

The first is for the wives by a leading marriage counsellor by the name of Meg Whitcombe,

“Leading marriage counsellor Meg Whithcomb has labelled the nine fatal sentences no wife should utter if she wants to preserve her marriage.”

  •  Your just like your Father
  •  Why don’t you earn as much as . . . . .
  •  You spend more time with your mates than with me
  •  You watch too much TV
  •  You’ve changed since you were younger
  •  I’ll get a divorce. (Meg comments: “Husband might take you up on it.”)
  •  I’ll only sleep with you if . . . . .  (never use sex as a weapon)
  •  Not tonight, I have a headache. (Be honest when you don’t want to make love.)
  •  Your no good in bed.

“Just like the Ten Commandments they are not earth shattering but the contain a lot of good sense.”

                                                                                    Meg Whithcomb

Speaking of the ten commandments I have a little quote that talks of the ten things that husbands need to do to look after their wives and families.  So I hope they help and give you all something to think about.

Ten Commandments for Husbands

  1. Remember that thy wife is thy partner, not thy property

  1. Do not expect thy wife to be wife and wage earner at the same time.

  1. Think not that thy business is not thy wife’s business.

  1. Thou shalt hold thy wife’s love by the same means that thou won it

  1. Thou shalt make the building of thy home thy first business.

  1. Thou shalt co-operate with thy wife in establishing family discipline.

  1. Thou shalt enter into thy home with cheerfulness

  1. Thou shalt not let anyone criticise thy wife to thy face and get away with it. Neither thy father, nor thy mother, nor thy brethren, nor thy sisters.

  1. Thou shalt not take thy wife for granted.

  1. Remember thy home and keep it holy.

While there are no hard or difficult things that we each can do to maintain our relationships.  It is the remembering that can be difficult at times.  Also doing the thing on a regular basis, not just occassionaly.

Well thats enough from me for now.  I bid you Adiu until next time.

Quote Of The Day

Enthusiasm is such a powerful force in our lives. and the good thing about it is we can share it with others. For example the following quote.

“If you don’t enthusiastically present your argument, don’t expect to keep the good result you probably won’t achieve.”

So if we present our discusion topic with enthusiasm, that can transfer to those we present to, and can help us get our point across.

“Enthusiasm is the contagious persuader.”

So how many of you can remember coming into contact with a person who was so enthusiastic about what they wanted to do or what they had to tell you about, that you found yourself being persuaded to either do what they wanted you to do or found yourself believing in what they were saying to you.  Even though a part of you was either reluctant to participate in what they wanted you to do.  Or the thing they wanted you to believe in.

I said earlier that enthusiasm can be a very powerful emotion.  And can often be a driving force in our lives.  And as the following quote shows, it can feel like our –

“Enthusiasm is knowledge on fire.”

Now where does this leave us, I wonder? Oh I know!, its time to say goodbye untill next time. So until then, Adieu!

Quotes of The Day

I just love enthusiasm, it can add luster to and lift your day. Make time seem to fly, and just  make your day great.

A number of years ago, an associate of mine helped me to understand the power of being positive and enthusiastic about life, regardless of people or weather or whatever the situation he was in.  He  always maintained an enthusiastic approach to what ever situation he was in.  But he explained to me as I got to know him better, that he was not always the positive, enthusiastic person I had come to know.  He had just learned the value of an enthusiastic and positive approach to life.

So if you . . .

“Mix enthusiasm with your work, and it will not seem hard or monotonous.”

Again . . .

“Enthusiasm is a state of mind that inspires and arouses one to put into action the task at hand.”

There is more I would like to share on this subject but I will leave these few quotes with you now, until my next post, Adieu my friends.
