Daily Quotes

The other day I was adding some quotes to one of my collections and I came across some Quotes that i had forgotten that I had, which by the way would have been uselful for another assignment that I had worked on the other day.

They all dealt with Family History, and I thought that I would share them here. Being a family historian myself I find these very applicable.  To start us off here is a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson.

“Every book is a quotation; and every house is a quotation out of all forests, and mines, and stone quarries; and every man is a quotation from all his ancestors.”

  Ralph Waldo Emerson

To me this quote says that we are who we are because of who our parents & grandparents, etc, are, in other words if you want to know why you have certain looks and or health issues, look at the lives of your ancestors for the answers.  Our next quote also emphasises that while also infering that we will pass on the same things plus more to our own descendants.  It comes from a gentleman by the name of Edward Selner.

“We inherit from our ancestors gifts so often taken for granted. Each of us contains within this inheritance of soul. We are links between the ages, containing past and present expectations, sacred memories and future promise.”

 Edward Sellner

The following quote illustrates one reason why we do Family History.  It comes in the form of a chinese proverb.

“To forget one’s ancestors is to be a brook without a source, a tree without a root.”

 Chinese Proverb

To close off our quotes for today I have included a quote from Jeremy Hardy which illustrates one the more facinating aspects of doing Family History.

“The thing that interests me most about family history is the gap between the things we think we know about our families and the realities.”

 Jeremy Hardy

Thats all from me for now, so i hope you find these quotes useful and informative. have fun, till next time.

Daily Quotes

Hi people today I thought that I would just pick a few quotes at random from my collections, (opening the books and flipping pages to see where we end up)

First off the rack is a quote I have in a file on my computer.  In a way it deals with our ability to cope with any and all situations that we may find ourselves in as we go through life.  It starts like this –

“The size of your problems is nothing compared with your ability to solve them.  Don’t overestimate your problems, and don’t underestimate yourself.”

To me this quote is saying that instead of just jumping into trying solve our problems or challenges in life, no matter what they are or how big they seem to be.  It is better to take time to look at the challenge or problem from all angles and bring what resources we can to bear on resolving them. Often a problem can be broken down into smaller parts and that way it doesn’t seem as big or as insurmountable as it first appeared.

Next from the same source comes a quote from Walt Disney, artist, filmmaker, entrepreneur and businessman.

“Why worry? If you’ve done the very best you can, worrying won’t make it any better.”

Walt Disney

This should be self explanatory, if you have done all that you feel that you can for a particular task, then worrying about it won’t change anything.

From another collection this one stood out to me as I was flipping pages.

“In any fight it is not only what you can do, it is where and how you do it.  An enemy has many fronts, and if one seems impregnable, attack on another.”

In reading this quote many of us would think that it only applies to the tactics that you would use in a battle or fight situation.  But my thinking is that it can also apply it to any difficult situation that we may find ourselves in. In fact it reminds me of another quote.

“When on door closes another opens, but we often stare so long at the one that has closed that we don’t see the one that has opened.”

Well that is all from me today so I bid you Adieu.  Have a great day, until next time.

Daily Quotes

At the end of last year my wife and I were searching our local shops for suitable calender’s to put on our walls, my wife found one for the kitchen and dining area fairly easily, but we couldn’t decide on one for my area.  Then my wife found the ideal calendar for my area.  It had beautiful scenic photo’s and quotes for each month.  The quote for the month of January I would like to share with you here.

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.”

Like any journey you have to make a start, whether it is planning on where you want to go or the goals you want to reach in your life, you have to take the first step in achieving or going on your journey. Whatever that may be.

In my last post I gave a few quotes on setting goals and achieving them.  I would like to continue that them here with a couple of related quotes. Sometimes when we are working on our goals events our situations arise that may cause us to get discouraged in pursuing our goals.  Here a couple of quotes that may be of use to you.

“There is always more than one chance – every dawn offers a new beginning.”

Just because you didn’t achieve all that you set out to do today, doesn’t mean that you won’t achieve or finish those tasks tomorrow.  Also sometimes when thing look bleak and you can’t see your way forward or there seems to be something stopping you from achieving your goals, the next thought is something to keep in mind for those moments.

“When one door closes another opens, but we often stare so long at the one that has closed that we don’t see the one that has opened”

Just remember –

“There is always a way to do it, let’s find out.”

So that is all from me to today, so I bid you Adieu until next time.
