Well it’s that time of year once again when everyone is thinking about and considering what goals they are going to set either for themselves or and their families. My wife and I are in the process of doing that just now.
Keeping that in mind I would like to share with you a few of my favorite quotes in regards to setting goals and a few others I feel are appropriate.
To start off, and something we all need to remember:
“Nothing can be changed until we face it.”
Now the next two quotes are my favorites. And I always keep them in mind when I think of settting new goals. First is one by Spencer W Kimble, former Apostle and President of “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.”
“Goals should always be made to a point that will make us reach and strain. Success should not necessarily be gauged by always reaching the goal set, but by progress and attainment.”
Spencer W Kimball
I like this quote simply because it remnds me of the need to set realistic goals and that even though I may not achieve the goal itself, I can measure my success by how far I have progressed in reaching that goal.
Our next quote goes in conjunction with the previous quote in that once you have set a goal you need to monitor your progress. This quote comes from Oscar Leslie Stone, better known as O Leslie Stone a general authority of “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.”
“We must constantly review the past, determine our present status, and set goals for the future. Without this process there is little chance of reaching one’s objectives.”
O Leslie Stone
Which brings us to the last quote of the day. I came across this particular quote in a book I read once which dealt briefly on, among other things, setting goals. No author was attributed to the quote, which goes like this –
“A goal not written is only a wish.”
In other words unless you write down your goals, they are only wishful thinking. One other thing I would like to say in regards to setting goals is that when you write your goals down, you should put them where you can see them, (I like to put my written goals in the area that I spend the most time in), so that you can be reminded of the goals you have set yourself.
That is enough from me for now, so once again I bid you Adieu till next time.
