Quote of The Day

Well the weekend is over and I must apologise for not posting yesterday, like I said that I would. Yesterday was spent in watching video’s of the 186th semi annual General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Though we only got to watch the 2 sunday sessions of conference my wife and I enjoyed the talks given by the general authorities of the church.
Later in the evening we had a friend come over to share a meal with us. So that is why i didn’t post a quote yesterday.

I would like to share with you a quote from James E Faust, an Apostle in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and who served as 2nd counsellor in the First Presidency of the Church from 1995 till his death in 2007. He spent most of his working life as a laywer, wrote a number of books, served in the united states army air corps during WW2, reaching the rank of 1st lieutant at the time of his discharge from the army air corps.  he also served in the Utah State  legislature. Was app ointed by President John F Kennedy to the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and was an advisor to the American Bar Journal.

In an article written for a Church magazine, (Liahona, pg 5) in 2003, Pres Faust made this statement in regards to family life and how we can strengthen it, which I think is even more relevant now than it was then.

“One of the main problems in society today is that we spend less and
less time together. Some, even when they are together, spend an
extraordinary amount of time in front of the television, which robs them of personal time for reinforcing feelings of self-worth. Family home evenings give individuals and families important time to talk and listen as parents and children, brothers and sisters, spouses, and friends. Time together is precious–time needed to encourage and to show how to do things. Less time together can result in loneliness, which may produce feelings of being unsupported, untreasured, and
inadequate.”

Pres James E Faust

Time spent together as family is precious. Parents need to spend time with their children just as much as children need to spend time with their parents. Commuication with one another can be of great benifit to all parties involved, we get to know each other and learn from each other. Drawing us closer to each other, strengthening those family bonds.

Which reminds me of another quote.

“Take a moment to hear today what your children have to say.  Listen today . . . . Whatever you do or they won’t be there . . . . . to listen to you.”

Thats it from me for today. So until next time have fun people.
